Who Created the Balloons for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade?

Tony Sarg, not Tony Stark, aka, Iron Man, invented the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade balloons.
Tony Sarg is a superhero in his own line of work making puppets, marionettes and giant balloons!
Balloons over Broadway: The True Story of the Puppeteer of Macy's Parade
Tony was employed by Macy's in New York City. He made the first wonderland window displays for Macy's.  He was asked by the owner of Macy's to create something special for the Macy's parade after the former Macy's Parade with lions and tigers scared the children.  Tony created what he called "up-side down marionettes". The very first parade balloons were in the 1927 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. People held them up in the air with sticks. Over time, Tony evolved his balloons into the ones we enjoy today that are held down by people holding ropes.

Tony was a mentor to Bill Baird, the man who made the marionettes for the "The Lonely Goatherd" in the movie, "The Sound of Music." Then Bill Baird taught Jim Henson how to make puppets and Jim Henson created the muppets on Sesame Street and those in the muppet movies with Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy.  Tony Sarg's ingenious talent has delighted people for over 70 years.

The Beehive Book Club is Back By Popular Demand!

The fourth annual Beehive Book Club is soaring into Bella Vista this year and students will
"Soar Into Beehive Books!"
The Beehive Book Club is back by popular demand. The first week of school students asked if the library will have the Beehive Book Club again this year and we are happy to say, "Yes we are!"

This year's Beehive Book Club, or BBC, has been up and running since October and students have already turned in almost 200 votes on the Beehive Nominated books they read! WOW! Bella Vista students love their Beehive Books!
To get a list of the 2013-14 Beehive Nominated books go to the Children's Literature Association of Utah's link, www.clau.org
The BBC will run until April.  Then the students votes will be submitted to the Children's Literature Association of Utah Beehive Book Competition. Bella Vista students help choose the winning books of this young readers most prestigious award in the state of Utah. Last year the students helped choose the winning books for the state of Utah with over 920 of their votes being included in the Utah Beehive Book Competition!
What do students do as members of the Beehive Book Club?
1. Color a paper airplane to become a member.
2. Read Beehive Nominated books for 2013-14.
3. Vote in the school library for what books they really liked, or thought were just ok or did not like.
4. Sign the Beehive Book Binder to show what books they read.
5. Party in May!  A Beehive Book Club Party will fly into the school library in May.  The Beehive Book awards for the state of Utah will be announced, there will be winning Beehive book give-aways, rewards for top readers of Beehive Books, rewards for all students that read at least one Beehive book for 2013-14, and pizza parties for the classes that read the most Beehive Books and more!

The Beehive Book Club exists because of the tremendous
financial support from
Bella Vista's PTA and Bella Vista's School Administration.
