This week, we talked about three authors in our library!
K-2 read books by Kevin Henkes. We read "Old Bear" to the Kindergartners and talked about hibernation and how much we look forward to spring! We created a PowerPoint presentation of "Chester's Way" and read it to our first and second graders. This book teaches about making new friends and finding great qualities in different people.
3rd and 4th grades read "The Year of the Dog" by Grace Lin. This novel was especially fitting to read this week since the Chinese New Year is on February 14th, and this novel begins with the celebration of Chinese New Year. Grace Lin is great at providing a peek into Chinese-American culture!
5th and 6th graders heard about Jerry Spinelli. We read two chapters from his book "Wringer", which teaches that you don't have to do what everyone else is doing. Spinelli has a great way of writing his character's point of view! Spinelli has also shown up a couple of times on our faculty favorites list, for "Stargirl" and "Maniac Magee".
